A Cognomovement Journey from Childhood Trauma to a Reclaimed Life
For years, Katie Wrigley lived with chronic pain, anxiety, and a nervous system stuck in survival mode. She tried therapy, medication, and sheer willpower, and still nothing reached the real root of what was happening in her body.
Eventually the pain got so bad she had to step away from the life she had built and go looking for answers no one had handed her yet. From Crutches to Half Marathon is the story of that search.
It is a deeply personal look at the role the nervous system plays in our health, our emotions, and the patterns we can't seem to shake. Trauma and stress don't just live in the mind. They get stored in the body, and they stay there long after the moment has passed. Real healing, Katie found, takes more than changing your thoughts. It takes learning to listen to the signals your body has been sending all along.
Part memoir and part guide, the book weaves her story together with what she learned about the mind-body connection, the messy middle included, as she moved from chronic pain and disability toward calm, strength, and clarity. And somewhere along the way, the woman who once needed crutches did the thing she was told she never would. She ran a half marathon.
"As I look back, the beliefs I had when I was disabled were that the pain and anxiety were never going to go away, that I deserved to be treated poorly, and that it was safer when I pushed people away. I was barely surviving. Now my beliefs are that I can handle any challenge in life, that I deserve to be treated as well as I treat others, and that the closer you let the right people get, the easier it is to love them and be loved." — Katie Wrigley

"I've been a co-responder with law enforcement for 20 years and have known trauma personally and professionally. Katie's book is exceptional, and comparable to The Body Keeps the Score. I encourage anyone exploring trauma to read it."
"This book will wake you up in ways no other book does. Katie is extremely open about what she's been through, and that vulnerability is a testament to the powerful work she's done. She pulls no punches and shows us exactly how to climb out of the holes we dig for ourselves. If you want inspiration and practical tools for transformation, this is the book for you."
"Part memoir, part guide, this is a uniquely vulnerable, thought-provoking and honest recollection of Katie's life, designed to help you decode your body's wisdom. I laughed, I cried, and felt it all. A must read to help us all navigate life's challenges and transform at a deep level."
"I've tried many healing modalities with mixed success, and I was so pleasantly surprised at the depth and effectiveness of Cognomovement. I cried, I laughed, and left with actionable insights I didn't have before. This book gives you a deeper look at the practice and all it can offer."
"Working with Katie has been the experience of a lifetime. Cognomovement is the best healing modality I've ever come across, and Katie elevates it to a whole new level. I'm a completely different person than when I started. If you have a chance to work with her, she will change your life."
"This book made me feel hopeful, seen, inspired and amazed. Katie's story is wonderfully woven together, well written and succinct. Be curious, lean in, and find out what else is possible."
Katie lives in Topsham, Maine with her German Shepherd Tangie and her two cats, George and Squish. If you catch her alone, there's a good chance she's singing made-up lyrics to her pets. ("Smelly Cat" from the show Friends is "Squishy Cat" at Katie's house.)
She loves spending time with her parents, which is what brought her to Maine in the first place, along with her friends and being outdoors as much as possible. Yes, even during Maine's very long, snowy winters, though summer is the favorite. She loves snowshoeing, tubing, and making snow angels with Tangie, and in the summer you can find the two of them out on a lake, paddleboarding together.
Katie is a certified neuroscience coach and advanced-level Cognomovement practitioner. What does that actually mean? Big words for a deep understanding of how the brain and nervous system work, and how to reprogram them for a life you're excited to live instead of one you just endure.
She offers self-paced online programs, group coaching, and customized 1:1 work for those who want fast, deep results that last.
